Medical Massage

Medical Massage

Medical Massage

Definition

A form of manual therapy that incorporates Traditional Chinese Medicine principles and the techniques of acupressure, pushing, rolling, kneading, pinching and grasping to help release blocked energies or pain from the soft tissues of the body.

Basics

Laura practices Tuina (“twee-nah”) which is typically performed with the client lying on a massage table with the client either fully clothed or partially clothed but draped.  If necessary, it may also be performed with the client fully clothed and seated in a chair.

Although the training is different from Swedish or Deep Tissue massage, the experience feels similar in many ways to the client.   The level of vigor involved in the treatment varies from client to client. Some clients may need a gentle application while others may need a deeper, more vigorous application in order to best address their condition. Client and practitioner work together to determine the depth of approach that is most appropriate and comfortable for the client.

Medical Massage is recommended for a wide variety of conditions including:

  • Shoulder Pain
  • Sciatic Pain
  • Stress
